In November, Butte Humane Society took in 11 American Pit Bull Terriers rescued from the largest dog fighting raid in US history. Over 500 dogs were seized in July following several raids spanning Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Texas and Oklahoma.  Read more about it here>

I am painting a 5 foot tall 4 foot wide canvas. I purchased the canvas around five years ago. Since there it has sat, blinding me with it’s Iowa snowstorm-like whiteness, and intimidating me with it’s mammoth size.

The colossal canvas is white no more! I am painting my large German Shepherd Mix Vegas (pictured here, happily posing). His painted ear measures two and a half feet, the length of his excessively long tail in real life.

I am planning to have the painting done by Vegas’ 8th birthday, March 23rd.

Takoda’s painting is complete! It is 30″ x 24″.

Below is the photo I worked from. This is Takoda with sand in her fur and the sun in her eyes. I took it last year at Saylorville Lake, one of our favorite places on warm summer days.

Here’s Basil, who I was told is “the most mellow dog ever”. Basil’s painting is a big 30″x24″, acrylic on canvas.

This is pit bull Grace, happily posing with her painting. Late last year I saw Gracie’s adorable mug on BADRAP.org and had to paint her! The painting was donated to BAD RAP and auctioned this weekend at BAD RAP’s 10-year anniversary benefit party in Berkeley. Read more about the party here and here on the Bad Rap blog. BAD RAP (Bay Area Doglovers Responsible About Pit bulls)  is a small and busy non-profit organization of pit bull owners, trainers, educators, rescuers, and supporters in San Francisco. If you’ve never checked out their blog and website be sure to visit – it’s an amazing resource of information and pittie pics that will make your heart melt!

Grace’s foster mom Jennifer took the painting home! Jenn plays upright bass in the awesome psychobilly band Three Merry Widows, who rocked the BAD RAP party. Thanks Jenn!

Grace’s painting has found a furever home, but Gracie the dog is still available! You can read more about Grace, and watch some cool videos, on  the Bad Rap blog and also on Vick Dog Blog. Grace is a 40-pound Canine Good Citizen star! If you live in the  SF bay area and are looking for a smart and adorable dog check this girl out!

AnnaBee’s is located in Pacifica, CA and carries mostly one-of-a-kind and handmade items (super cool!). AnnaBee’s is named after a Louisiana street dog and Katrina survivor who arrived in California skin and bones but ready to take on the world. AnnaBee passed away at age 4 due to brain cancer and the boutique was opened in her memory. AnnaBee’s supports several Bay area non-profit dog rescue organizations, as well as The Sula Foundation.
