First, some interesting dog owner statistics from the Humane Society of the US:

• Thirty-nine percent of U.S. households own at least one dog
• Most owners (63 percent) own one dog
• Twenty-five percent of owners own two dogs
• Twelve percent of owners own three or more dogs

I’m in the minority 12%! This may be why, nearly 6 years ago when we adopted Dog #3 and began walking the trio down the street together, people sometimes asked if we were professional dog walkers!

I love multiple dog households! I offer a 20% on your 2nd, 3rd, etc. painting if your commission more than 1. But I have been turning down dog painting commissions requesting more than 1 dog in the same painting. Since I have been receiving more and more inquiries from people in the 37% multiple dog owner group, this needs to change!

I haven’t painted more than 1 dog in a painting yet, but this is how it will work:

1. I can paint 2 dogs in 1 painting on the same size canvas that I normally paint 1 dog, with the exception of the smallest (8″x10″ size – it’s just TOO small!). So your canvas size options for 2 dog paintings are: 16″ x 20″, 20″ x 24″, 24″ x 30″, and 30″ x 40“. Add $50 to the “1 dog” prices for the additional dog

2 dogs in 1 painting prices:
16 x 20: $175
20 x 24: $215
24 x 30: $270
30 x 40: $350

The dogs in the painting will need to be zoomed out a little farther than my typical one dog paintings – the cropping will be looser and you will see a bit more of the dogs shoulders. Here is a sample of what a 2-dog layout might look like:

For 3 or more dogs, a wider canvas and/or a different layout will be necessary. Contact me and we can discuss options. For example, I am currently working on a 24″ x 36″ painting for an 8 dog family. The canvas will be split into 8 smaller frames, similar to the layout of Andy Warhol’s Marily Monroe. Here is a preview, using previously painted dogs as an example:

Some other options for multiple dog owners:

• Multiple 8″x10″ paintings hung together in a series, creating a similar effect to the 8-dog painting shown above. 8″x10″ paintings are only $65, and I offer a 20% discount on additional  paintings, so the 2nd (and 3rd, etc.) will be only $52. Very affordable!
